You may be suffering from a muscle strain.

A muscle strain occurs when your muscles are exposed to a high speed movement or stretch that overloads the muscle. Muscle strains can also occur when the muscle is fatigued and a load is put on them that they cant sustain.   

Muscle strains exhibit a number of different characteristics and symptoms. A muscle strain could lead to weakness in the affected muscle, bruising over the affected muscle and a sensation of tightness in the affected muscle. If the tear is more severe the muscle could lose function completely.

Treatment and management of a muscle strain is simple but often overlooked. A common misconception about muscle strains is, with enough rest the muscle will return to full function eventually. Research has shown this isn't the case. Initially pain must be managed but this is then followed by physiotherapy treatments such as soft tissue release coupled with a graded and incremental strengthening and functional exercise program which is catered around the individual's physical needs.
