Do you ever think to yourself - “which shoes are the right shoes for me when running or playing sport”?

Often people question whether they are buying the most appropriate footwear to perform physical activities such as running. As well as this, people often question whether their shoes are giving them injuries when performing physical activity.

 

On examination of a study by Napier and Willy (2018) who looked at the correlation of different types of footwear with running related injuries, it was found that there is little evidence supporting 'one shoe prevents injuries more than another'. What the study goes into further detail about is; running related injuries are more likely to occur due to poor running technique and biomechanics rather than the shoe that is on your foot.

 

So what does this mean? The main point behind this study is that if you are getting pain when running, instead of blaming it on your shoes, you may need to re-learn or modify your running technique. By modifying your running technique, this may lead to less load and strain on muscles that are possibly in a uncomfortable or strained position.
