Have you recently had a trauma to your tail bone, or has pain in the tailbone progressively increased?
Do you feel a pain at your tailbone when you sit for a certain amount of time?
You may be suffering from Coccydynia.
Coccydynia is an inflammation of the tail bone (or coccyx). The coccyx is the last segment of bone at the bottom of the spine. It is also the attachment site for many important muscles of the pelvic floor.
Coccydynia is generally caused by either a trauma to the area of the tailbone or it can also occur spontaneously due to constant sitting irritation. It is generally diagnosed based on history and physical examination.
Pain and tenderness at the coccyx is a major symptom of Coccydynia. As such, pressure on this region can irritate the coccyx and make it difficult to sit or lean on the buttock.
Treatment and management of Coccydynia is quite simple. As this is an inflammatory condition, we can use a unique high intensity pulsed machine to reduce the inflammation in the region. Other treatments include:
Activity modification/ adjustment
