3 Tips for the New year

Today’s blog will be focusing on what are some ways that you can actually get fitter and healthier this year. Make 2021 your year to swap out all the old habits with new ones.


Sitting for a long period of time: It is only human nature to slouch with rounded shoulders while sitting. This kind of bad posture can cause aches and pain everywhere around your neck, shoulders and upper back. Prolonged sitting is never recommended. If your job requires you to sit for a long period of time, you should set an alarm to get up and walk every 20-30min. This will allow your posture to reset and minimise build up of muscle tension. It might not seem like much.. However little things like this can make a big difference in your health in 10 years time.


Engage in any form of physical activities: In 2021, everyone is busy and makes excuses not to exercise. Some of us have never been able to stick to an exercise program due to lack of variety and interest. Interest plays a big role in participation. If you enjoy something, you will naturally be good at it and stick to it. By performing daily exercises, the body releases endorphins and dopamine which improves your mood. Not everyone is suitable for the gym. A lot of people find it boring and give up. That is completely fine. You just have to find something you enjoy. It could be as simple as walking, hiking or biking. As long as you are moving and increasing your heart rate, it will be beneficial to your health.


Get your pain and niggles checked out by a professional: If you want to start your year fresh, you need to be pain free or at least manage the pain that you have before going into a big year. Athletes should always look after their health by getting their injury checked out as soon as it occurs. This will allow an appropriate time frame to heal and for the physiotherapist to get on top of it. Especially with sport seasons starting soon, injuries are a lot more prevalent. Every injury starts with a small pain but if you leave it untreated, it could become something a lot more serious which may require surgery down the road. So start investing in your health now and get any injuries checked out.

Going into the new year, everyone wants to start fresh and be pain free. This can be achieved by following the 3 steps I have mentioned. This will allow you to have a better lifestyle and therefore decrease and prevent pain from occurring in the future.
